Jammu Events & Festivals
-
Holi is another festival that represents the colourful life of the city – literally. This festival of colors entails activities such as bonfires and tourists/locals painting each other in the streets. This “welcoming of spring” event lasts for three days. The Navatri celebration is held in dedication to the important Goddess Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati. For 9 days, the city fasts and gathers to worship and make offerings to their idols. On the last day, the fast is broken and a gigantic feast and party takes place. Baisakhi is an important celebration to Jammu as it marks the beginning of India’s harvesting season. Fairs are organized all throughout the city, selling traditionally grown food and tasty cuisine as well as original Jammu handicrafts. Dance performances also take place, welcoming people of all ages and backgrounds to participate in the welcoming of a fruitful time for the city.
